But Djurgården is also the greenest island of them all, part of the National City Park, with vast areas of forest and open spaces.

Skansen – outdoor museum on Djurgården

Skansen is a unique outdoor museum with a zoological park – here you can experience historical buildings, traditions, Nordic animals and Swedish culture.

In some areas, you will have difficulty imagining you’re in the middle of a big city.

Officially Djurgården is named "Kungliga Djurgården" which translates roughly to "The Royal Game Park". Large portions of the island have been, and still are, under the custody of the crown. How was it salvaged? What was life like onboard?

Walks on Royal Djurgården

Discovering the island of Royal Djurgården is best done on foot.

Here you can find plenty of walkways, such as the ”Love Path” – a romantic stroll through the lush nature. On the new site sustainable.royaldjurgarden.se you can read more about the long-term sustainability work on the island.

No matter the season, a walk along Djurgården is beautiful.

This year they present a new rollercoaster, The Monster, which is guaranteed to get your heart racing! This isn't to say that the development of Djurgården has stagnated, far from it.

  • Some later additions are Spritmuseum, which is home to the Absolut Art Collection, on view year-round, and ABBA The Museum just around the corner.

    Further south on the island, you'll also come across two more art museums, Prins Eugen's Waldemarsudde, and The Thiel Gallery.

  • The island is also famed for its many family-friendly attractions. The tour is guided in 11 different languages and one of the main benefits is that you can purchase a ticket for unlimited travel during 24 or 72 hours.

    Sustainable Djurgården
