Kungsportsavenyn (Kings Gate’s Avenue), or just Avenyn (the Avenue), is the most prestigous road in Gothenburg, where you find some of the most important restaurants and stores.

Does the museum offer guided tours in sign language? Works by masters such as Rembrandt, Picasso and van Gogh are shown side by side with works by contemporary artists such as Charlotte Gyllenhammar, Lina Selander and Cajsa von Zeipel.

The museum is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May 1, June 6, Midsummer’s Eve and Midsummer’s Day.

On public holidays when the museum is open and the day before public holidays, the museum closes at 5 pm.

Due to construction in the area around the Gothenburg Museum of Art, blasts occur at regular intervals.

The card is a valuable document and can only be used by one person. Then you have come to the right place! Stora Teatern is a grand theater building at the other end of Avenyn, next to the canal. Is there an elevator in the museum? Elite Park Avenue Hotel, a 12-storey modernist hotel from 1950, and Hard Rock Café is situated here, as well as many classic cafés.

There is also a large collection of contemporary Nordic art, as well as fine examples of Dutch and Flemish painting from the 17th century, Swedish 18th century painting, Romantic and Academic painting from the 19th century, French Impressionism and international Modernism as well as many artworks from children’s literature.

About the museum

The Gothenburg Museum of Art has one of the foremost art collections in Northern Europe. While the avenue itself is considered beautiful, there are just a few historic buildings, many buildings are yellow brick and modernist style. Avenyn is 840m long and leads to Götaplatsen, where you find a large staty of Poseidon inside a fountain (7m high, designed buy Carl Milles), Stadsteatern (Municipal Theatre), Göteborgs Konstmuseum, the large art museum from 1923 with works of among others Picasso, Rubens, Zorn and Dubuffet and Göteborgs Konsthall (Gothenburg Art Hall), all large yellow-brick buildings.

There are some stray parking spots on the streets around the museum; Viktor Rydbergsgatan, Ekmansgatan, Geijersgatan and Johannebergsgatan.
